The NSAA Responsibility Code

1.  Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people or objects.
2.  People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.
3.  Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic.
4.  Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail.
5.  You must prevent runaway equipment.
6.  Read and obey all signs, warnings, and hazard markings.
7.  Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
8.  You must know how and be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. If you need assistance, ask the lift attendant.
9.  Do not use lifts or terrain when impaired by alcohol or drugs.
10.  If you are involved in a collision or incident, share your contact information with each other and a ski area employee.

Winter sports involve risk of serious injury or death. Your knowledge, decisions and actions contribute to your safety and that of others. If you need help understanding the Code, please ask any ski area employee.

The rider must also be able to demonstrate a safe and acceptable solution for ski lift loading and unloading that is within the parameters of the ski lift design and operating standards which does not impede on other users. Rider must slide down the offloading ramp, not walk when getting off the lift. 

Powder Mountain operates on and is surrounded entirely by private property and reserves the right to restrict terrain access at its own discretion. Terrain access is regulated through a series of signs, rope lines, gates and points of entry; all erected and maintained in the interest of public safety. Violating Powder Mountain boundary lines can result in long, strenuous, cold and dark search and rescue efforts in areas that most often do not have cell service. Traveling beyond the marked area boundary or going under any rope at any time is a violation of the Powder Mountain Boundary Policy and will not be tolerated. Violators may lose lift privileges and may be turned over to the Weber County Sheriff. 

Out of Ski Area Boundary will be billed a minimum of $500.

The Powder Mountain Snow Safety Department is responsible for controlling access to avalanche terrain and actively reducing avalanche danger. Avalanche mitigation within the area boundary reduces, but does not eliminate, the possibility of avalanches occurring. Access to avalanche terrain is regulated through a series of rope lines, signs and gates.  Travel into avalanche terrain is only permissible through open avalanche gates. At times of elevated or increasing avalanche hazard these gates will be closed. When the hazard decreases or is actively mitigated gates may be reopened at the discretion of the Snow Safety Team. Travel into closed avalanche terrain is a violation of Weber County Ordinances Chapter 22 § 109-22-01 and Chapter 4, §14-3-5 through §14-3-10.  Violators will lose lift privileges and/or will be turned over to the Weber County Sheriff.

Powder Mountain does not permit skiing or riding with child carriers. In accordance to National Safety Standards regarding chairlift operations (ANSI B77 Passenger Ropeway Standards) all passengers should be able to self-evacuate with the assistance of the Powder Mountain Patrol Staff. Because of safety concerns related to evacuation, passengers should not have impediments such as child carriers. 

Powder Mountain requires all packs be removed prior to loading a lift and carried on the riders lap. 

When winter resort operations aren't open or during shoulder seasons, uphill travel is allowed on Powder Mountain's private property. Please respect Powder Mountain's property and be wary of resort vehicles. This is a backcountry setting at the guests own risk, with no patrol or avalanche mitigation services offered. Powder Mountain reserves the right to close access to the mountain at anytime. When the resort is open, day tickets or season passes are needed to access any of the resorts private land to ski and/or snowboard. Avalanche training and gear are encouraged. Guests are asked to not interfere with or load ski lifts. In the event of an emergency, call 911. For more information see Utah Recreation Code 57-14-2.

Recreational drone and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle use by any guest or member of the public, for any reason, is not permitted on or over any Powder Mountain property.   Commercial drone Unmanned Aerial Vehicle use is by permission only and must receive prior written consent from Powder Mountain management.  All requests for approval of commercial drone use should be directed to marketing@powdermountain.com.

Equipment used will be designed for and fit for the intended purpose. 

Equipment should be designed for or fit for use by people on the snow. 

Skis or boards must have appropriate construction including metal edges. 

Attachments, pivots, connections must all be engineered solutions. 

An anti-runaway device (Leash) or restraint attached between the device and the rider (either with a breakaway link or removable when on chair lifts) must be present. 

An anti-drop device or restraint attached between the device and the chairlift (not attached to the rider) must be present for use on chairlifts where applicable (i.e. where the device can physically become separated from the rider and the chair and potentially be dropped). 

Powder Mountain loves dogs but for the safety of our guests we do not permit them to ride the lifts or use the ski trails. Dogs are allowed in other outdoor public areas but must be on a leash and owners are required to clean up after their dogs.

AirFlare transforms a mobile phone into a safety and rescue beacon. AirFlare enables Powder Mountain Ski Patrol to quickly locate a skier in need of assistance when in cell service. AirFlare also provides a number of self-help features, for example, the ability to determine the exact location of a friend or family member with a single push of a button, and to quickly navigate to them. Powder Mountain Ski Patrol has adopted AirFlare Search Technology as part of an ongoing effort to promote mountain safety. This app is a good addition to but does not replace an avalanche transceiver.
